A keen rifleman and hunter from an early age, George's passion for country sports and the environment shaped his career. Growing up on the Graythwaite estate, he developed a deep interest in deer stalking and deer management, integral to his commitment to conserving rare breeds.
With a long-held ambition to restore the shoot to its former glory, George, supported by his Head Keeper, has achieved remarkable success over the past eight years. Operating within a nature recovery project, his efforts have not only revitalized the shoot but also increased guest demand and enhanced the experience for all who visit the estate. This pioneering development marks an exciting trajectory for Graythwaite.
The team comprises around 20 local countrymen and women who are committed to their passion for nature and the environment. Each member plays a crucial role and thrives best, out in the field, working the dogs as a team to providing a successful day’s shoot.
With over twenty years of experience as a full-time gamekeeper with a passion for nature and the environment, Steven possesses a wealth of knowledge about deer, particularly roe deer. He is available as an experienced guide for our stalking guests, having gained valuable experience as an under-keeper at Glamis Castle.
Brian Lloyd, our stalking guide, has been involved in deer stalking at Graythwaite for over 25 years. With a profound passion for red deer, he dedicates much of his time to observing their movements and habits. His knowledge of the estate and its deer is unparallelled
