Driven Pheasant Shooting

Driven pheasant shooting is often referred to as the "Sport of Kings." It combines centuries of history and tradition, incredible landscapes, and some of the most challenging sport you will ever encounter. It's enough to keep many of our guest teams coming back year after year. Graythwaite's birds, which are entirely hand-fed, are expertly maintained to the highest industry standard by our keeper, Steven Campbell. We are fortunate to have the most dramatic and challenging topography, offering a wide variety of stands. We always ensure our teams are presented with drives that test and challenge the guns.

Deer Stalking

Graythwaite's red deer stalking is an unforgettable experience, even for the most seasoned stalkers. The estate offers varied landscapes, from woodland-surrounded pastures to lakes, steep broad-leaved valleys, open fells, and thick conifer plantations. Red and roe deer have roamed these fells for 11,000 years, and herds of 30-40 reds are quite common. From late September, when the stags start to rut, their roaring can be heard from miles around. Both morning and evening outings are available to our guests, and our team of experienced professional guides will ensure you have the best chance of a shot during your outing.

Simulated Game Shooting

Enjoy a full day’s game shooting, with an exciting range of challenging and varied simulated targets. High-driven pheasants, or partridge bursting from the fell sides on some of the most renowned drives in the UK. Simulated Days provide all the thrill of a day’s shooting out of season. The days are orchestrated like a traditional pheasant shoot, with beaters, dogs, and picking-up teams. They include elevenses and a shoot lunch, or a barbecue by the lake at the end of the day.

Simulated Deer Stalking

A simulated stalk provides the experience of a day on the hill stalking, whilst not actually harvesting a real animal. Steel reactive targets dispersed around the estate are used as life sized  targets. Normally on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis, the guests will have the chance to shoot at a number of targets in several varied scenarios and at different ranges. These days are rapidly growing in popularity as they offer all the excitement of a real stalk at less expense, and can offer useful practice and learning for less experienced shots. They typically take place between February and July, which enables guests to enjoy fantastic sport during the summer, and to keep their eye in for the upcoming sporting season.

Educational Days Online Courses

With the ever increasing popularity of rifle shooting and deer stalking, there are various qualifications that hunters need to legally shoot deer in the UK. At Graythwaite we provide education days for both beginners and more experienced rifle shots and can get people trained and prepared for these qualifications.

Graythwaite Hall, the historic home of the Sandys family, has been hosting shooting parties for decades. The dining room, hung with 300 years of family portraits, features a roaring log fire and a dining table suitable for any size dinner party. Those who prefer a traditional English shooting party typically stay in the Hall, which is fully staffed. Silverholme, which sits majestically above the west shore of Windermere, is also available and offers a stunning lake view. With nine en-suite rooms and a large dining room, it's the perfect venue for hosting your shooting event.
